Class at Bei Shi Da
Now that classes are beginning, there aren't going to be as many exciting things going on, until I go on trips or around during the weekends.
I started class the other day, Thursday. I was set to go into class 7, which had no air condition (kong tiao) and the teacher explained things pretty slowly. Nevertheless, I stuck through the class with a headache and an open mind. At the break, where the teacher left and teacher's aid took over, I went to check out class 8 since that was a higher level middle level. It was quite nice. I talked to the laoshi there and he said that I could switch but both class were similar in the sense of the material, after all, it would be using the same book. So, listening to that, I weighed the pros and cons between the two classes (obviously trying to jump to 9, which was a different intensive/advanced class, would be a stupid move).
Class 7 was the most convenient because I didn't need to move anywhere. Class 8 was the class that Tammy was moving to with another one of our friends and it would be a little more accelerated with people who could speak more. After weighing my options, today I went to class 8 after I told my class 7 teacher that I wanted to check it out. Number 1! the class had air conditioning and was cool. The teacher was very knowledgeable and was able to explain things quite well. Also, the second teacher, though she spoke a little fast, was very nice and was able to relate in some way to us, asking us questions pertaining to the section, but also to our own lives.
The lesson today was dian3 cai4, which was fun. We talked about In-N-Out in chinese and also Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles, PJ's favorite place in the states. Haha. Anyway, I think I will stick there. Someone who was switching around classes came in and said the other classes lower down in the zhong level were going faster, but I liked the pace that we are going in the 8 class. Too bad I had to sacrifice the people in class 7, but I only knew a few and the rest of the people didn't make the class a fun conversation class. There are a lot of people looking to move up and down into 8, it's a lucky number and all the people in the class are awesome!
I had more bao zi today, which was good. We are just waiting now to leave at 430 to go to a tea ceremony. I really want to go check out the US Embassy today because I hear they are having a 4th of July barbeque for Independence Day. I hope there are enough people that would want to go/have enough to time to check it out.
Also, today after class when I was going with Tammy and Diana to exchange their gao level books to a zhong level, I heard the Beijing Huanying Ni song. I went to check it out and the teacher let me watch from the door, a bunch of students were just watching the movie. It was really cool watching it again, but this time in the Motherland.
I think I've officially moved to 8 though. I hope the teacher accounts for me missing in class 7 and present in class 8.
I really want to talk to my parents and brother and such but they do not tell me when they are available to call. I told them my numbers and such but yeah. Hopefully soon. Knowing my sister, she will make them actually do it instead of just saying so. So hopefully yeah.
I'm probably going to just hang out until the tea ceremony.
