Rediscovering My Regular Food Stops
I know that a lot of my blog has been about food, but since coming back to America, I've noticed that many of my favorite places have gone downhill.
My first destination: Barney's.
I'm a regular at Barney's because I know the burgers are cooked perfectly and the curly fries are to die for. Naturally, these are the two things that I order when I go to Barney's. But a week ago when I went to Barney's and ordered the usual, I noticed that the burger didn't meet the normal standards of a Barney's burger. I usually ask for the burger done medium well so it's still soft and tender, but it felt more like I was eating a charred piece of VERY well done beef. It wasn't only the texture, but also the bitter taste that you get when something is burnt.
I wasn't so pissed because I was happy to be eating a Barney's burger again, but what pushed me past that level was the curly fries. One part of Barney's that I thought would always bring me back. They were over-fried and therefore too hard. The meal overall was not good at all. I know I will give it another try, maybe a different location, I just hope they can't disappoint me two times in a row. We'll see. I could always default to Smokehouse, In-N-Out, or Christopher's, but there is just something about the gourmet feeling in the Barney's Burger that I feel can't be easily copied.
I feel like home food always is standard and will always be good. I guess this is so because it's the food I've grown up on and developed my taste buds. I've also heard that restaurants like Sushi House in Alameda, a hands-down favorite for many, have been going down hill in terms of food quality and, by association, customers. I'll let you guys know about any other developments in this area after I go back to all my regular places.
In other news, I've stumbled upon another website that I think is quite cool:
Alexa.com, a website that is designed for the purpose of showing just how much traffic different sites get and what the top 500 visited sites are. I was surprised to see that more people visited Yahoo than Google, but I was not surprised to see that so many people visited adult sites, I'll have you know this is not just the US, but international.
That's all for now.
